ISLANDS OF HOPE - The Adventure of Emigration

Aljezur, 1461

Dificult life in Portugal, in this year of 1461, XV Century. A group of 20 young people from my home land, decided to say yes to the call of prince Henry, to settle down the first european city in the tropics, Ribeira Grande in the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, discovered 5 years before. Looking for a better life, since the one we have is no good for a long time.

A farewell party, in the honour of the brave sons of the land, who depart with dreaming with sucess and the fear of failure. Stories that will go, some tragic, other beautiful, and other with an uncertain future. Stories of love, adventure meaning for a life jump or a life cut in two halfs. People that we leave behind with promises of coming back or a future call to re-union. That´s  the way emigrant life undergo. Only later we will know if it was a good or a bad move. I look one last time for my land, the firends and loves we have conquered spend a last time with us, a last night with love and tears that grab us to the land and a bbeautiful music that call us to move to there (Que Vida of Tito Paris, Mar Azul of Cesária Évora, masters of Cape verde music). We shall see.

Vida difícil neste quartel do Séc.

A ver vamos.

Patagónia - Opening the Range

Trelew-Esquel

All of a sudden, all the anguish that´s deep inside you, comes up and move out in a continuous mouvement, unloading its weight out of you. That´s what i felt as i penetrate deeply into Patagónia, from Atlantic coast (Trelew) and the base of Andes (Esquel). 600 km of an overwhelming and freeing track, through the sorrow of the infinite, sometimes stopped by a rare gas station or, yet more rarely, a little town where everything seemed closed, but where something is always open. Allow me to walk through with you and this friend of my year, Jesse Cook (That´s right and Tempest), re-tasting that unforgettable on the road moment towards Esquel where we had the old patagonian express (Trochita) to catch in our way to Nahuel Pan. If you like the music, look for the albums Vertigo and/or Nomad.

Kisses and hugs

That's Right and Tempest).

A PhD on the Road - Missing you

Granja

The best thing that you take after travelling is not in the monuments you have seen, the museums you've been or the landscapes you have fitted in. These just create the background. Really, the best thing you take in your heart & soul is the people you crossed with that make your world wonderful.

I love the tangible purety and sense of balance of the tibeteans and sinhalese and buddists in general

I love the wisdom of chinese or the sense of nature of the indians

I love the africans for the their music from the soul and for ignoring time

and the Brazilian and Cubans for their permanent joy

and Americans for their courage

and europeans for my birthplace.

I love all those friends that i made in every place i stayed.

I miss you all very much.

(The PhD? on the hands of supervisors to really close the thing. I need your hands for this last walk. Too much anxiety and too less capacity)

Kisses and hugs with the voices of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and Eva Cassidy & Katie Melua together with the fantastic Louis Armstrong & his wonderful world

A PhD on the Road - Statistics

I´m an Engineer and so i shoot numbers on everything that moves. Its instintictive, Faster than my own shadow. Thus here i am to present you the numbers of this adventure

This PhD on the Road was not created only for fun, but to bring fun and emotions to a hard working job, as well as imagination to found new ideas in the course of data comprehension. The PhD i´m about to finish was guided by the adventure you could follow, marking its rythm, giving new ideas and, above all, bringing emotions to the rational work. In summary, it made possible an important creative sense, and transformed one of the most difficult times of my life in a beautiful "promenade".

The double adventure took exactly 14 months, from November 15th (2008), in a beautiful saturday when i published the first post and open a file named "thesis script", to January 15th (2010) when i put an end on it. In the beetween

- at least a post once a week,
- 64 published movies and posts (in english and portuguese languages), 61 produced by myself and 2 by Patricia Vieira and 1 by my dear uncle Duarte Bravo de Faria
- 12 countries visited along with small stories lived there, namely Morocco (Tuareg), Mozambique & South Africa (In the Track of Livingstone), Sri Lanka (A Love Story), Tibete (Seven weeks in Tibete), China (A Tea from China), Taiwan (Making Possible the Impossible), Brazil (Uma História de Peão), Guatemala (Rings of Fire), México (The Beauty of the Unexpected), Cuba (Cuba Libre) United States (An Italian King and the Knights of the Blade), United Kingdom (Learning with Youth) and back in Portugal (Small Things are always Great and Blowin in the Wind)
- Apart from these above, 5 technical movies were also produced dealing with thesis theme and also teaching and tutoring
- The whole 12 chapters of the final document, which were developed in four steps that went along with each continental track followed during the adventure. Africa for Background (Part A of the thesis), Asia for Playground (Part B), America for Experience (Part C) and Europe for the Model (Part D). Perfect combination
- A fantastic time with talented team mates
- The rest of the numbers can be seen in the attached movie

Kisses and Hugs

A PhD on the Road (Back Home)

It was running the year of 1994 when i first knew about DMT, in the entrance hall of Industrial de Sondeos in Madrid. At the time, I was a young engineer in the beginning of a professional career with a lot of dreams to fulfill, desperately looking for modern forms of testing and I was touched by the simplicity and versatility of the test. As a consequence, one DMT unit was bought by LGMC of CICCOPN, the first quality controlled laboratory of mechanical testing in Portugal, which gave rise to a long run after its applicability in residual soils. One year later, at the end of 1995, the first MSc dissertation on DMT in portuguese soils was concluded, which included already a first attempt to introduce it in residual soils. Since then, the portuguese experience gave rise to 30 publications crossing a wide range of problems related with DMT in residual soils.

My PhD thesis is the result of this long run, but it is much more than one man’s work. In fact, this was produced by a lot of fantastic people that worked with me as team mates in LGMC, later in MOTA-ENGIL to where I moved in 2003 and also Aveiro University. They gave me the pleasure of walking along with me, proving that friendhip and a good mood can really take us far. Let me introduce all of them, singing a song with a great meaning for portuguese (Traz um amigo também – Resistência) that is my tribute to their capacity of always bringing a friend along with them...

José Manuel Carvalho - The first DMT operator (1994) and a long journey companion in the hardest early times

Fernando Gomes – Development of first calculation sheets which allowed storing important data basis since the earlier begin (1995). Fantastic job mounting exactly what i needed (and i didn´t know i needed)

Sonia Inês Figueiredo – The first global data treatment of combined testing programs, which included 15 sedimentary and 7 residual experimental sites (2000). My Soninha. Quite short the time we had been together, but so full of empaty. And a great job that became a huge step forward towards the work i´m trying desperately to finish.

Jorge Cruz – Development of DMT multi-testing campaigns. This work gave rise to Geotechnical Engineering degree final work, awarded with Lisoarte Gomes Prize (2003) and a MSc thesis (2008). The best engineer i´ve ever work with. Either in friendship and teamwork

Jorge Ribeiro – Geotechnical Engineering final work based in LGMC experimental site, (2004), closing an important stage on residual soil characterization. We learn about triaxial testing together, with efficiency and companionhip

Ricardo Rocha – Introduction of geophysics in combination with mechanical testing (2005). A great future is expected in geophysics. He deserve it. Clearly

Eduardo Neves – MSc thesis in artificially cemented soils which gave important impulse to the main experience of actual work (2007). So many things together, maybe the one who lived more different stages with me. And we climbed together to the top of Pacaia to see magma coming out from the earth.

Manuel Cruz – Development of advanced mathmatics & engineering interfaces (2007), co-supervising the research works on propagation errors of results. Don´t tell anyone this secret, but he is my bro.

Carin Mateus – MSC thesis on error propagation of DMT results, departing from measurement errors (2007). My day-to-day help, support and fuel to go on.

João Branco working together with me in rock mechanics (so important its understanding to understand residual soils). Maybe the one who worked with me in the most difficult conditions. And he gave everything. Fantastic job, fantastic friendship

Patricia Vieira & Luis Machado – Same kind of previous work applied to SCPTU and PMT, closing the pack of the main in situ tests for a proper residual soil characterization (2008). Together with Fernando Paiva and Denise Silva, they make a younger and promising generation of team mates. Let´s walk towards something useful, together.

Carlos Rodrigues – Determinant contribution on the main research program related to the present work, and more than that, the arm-to-arm he always gave me, no matter the circunstances. About this i would just say... he taught me a different meaning for friendship

Mike Lopes, David Felizardo & Catarina Lemos - They taught me how far a team can go, always with a beautiful shining smile

My Friends, this work is the result of what we were able to do together, and I sincerely hope you can feel proud of it. Thank you all for your contribution. It has been a pleasure to walk with you.

A PhD on The Road (Back Home)

Portugal

Friends are the most valuable thing of one man´s life. I will do anything to keep the joy of a friendship, all the time, since we live a time were these kind of values are loosing its meaning, every day. I suspect that we are really gonna need as many friends as possible dreaming together to overcome this world dangerously sliding to hell, to loneliness, to a global war. We have to keep on dreaming that this can make the difference.

The movie of today is a tribute to friendship and the capacity of dreaming together. The music is from Resistência (Não sou o unico, I´m not the only one) and tell us that when you are dreaming, you are never alone.

Ladies & Gentleman... I´d like to introduce you to my friends of this sailing trip that brought me back home

Alexandre e Afonso Santos, Mena Zambujal, Vitor Az, Silvia Fernandes

Kisses and hugs to all my friends, plus to those that will be, some day.

Blowin in the Wind - Dreaming for a lifetime from nunocruz on Vimeo.

Alexandre e Afonso Santos, Mena Zambujal, Vitor Az, Silvia Fernandes

A PhD on the Road (Portugal, at last)

Porto Santo

Steppin on National Territory, again. I just choose the smallest island of our Portugal, in a symbolic way to come back home.

Pick up your Google, find Porto Santo, go up in the sky and see how small it is in the middle of the ocean and how amazing is that the nature who found a way of proctecting the beauty of that golden beach. The (volcanic) God of the Deep that came all the way up to protect that "lady" beach, the most golden beach in the entire world.

Porto Santo is an amazing place, the most curious island i´ve ever been. A combination of sedimentary and volcanic environment all in the same spot, with a 14 km long narrow beach, lost in the middle of the ocean with a vulcanic bodyguard that ensures is sustainability. It is a life lesson, about balance, protection and how important it is to combine advantages to get better results.
I recommend a stop by... People living there (how smart they are) just teach you how easy can life be.

My tribe is still walking along with me, making sure i really come home, and so i danced with them following the lyrics and songs of Macy Gray (I Try) and Red Hot Chilli Pepers (Stadium Archadium) , which were chosen by them. It was fantastic for me to feel their warmness, here. Next week, i´ll start crossing the Atlantic Ocean in my last track to the mainland.

Kisses and hugs for everybody, and make your life easy.

Small things are always great from nunocruz on Vimeo.

A PhD on the Road (Tibete)

Lhasa

One day you got to leave, even if you don´t want to.

My last day in Tibet was blessed by the company of Dalai Lama through the heart of a child. In fact, after some tricks and turns i was in a genuine tibetean party, where you can see their true way of life. I walked around wiith my Canon, breathing their air and taking photos of all that magnificent world. All of a sudden a group of children just came to me and ask to take some pictures of them, and then to see it, among naif and childish laughs. I felt my hair going up.
One of them (the little Dalai Lama) took my hand and dragged me jumping from roof to roof, and then again to the floor, penetrating all that gents, going up again to the roofs until i was definitively exhausted. I beg him to stop, bought a couple of drinks and we set in one roof drinking and looking down as if we were gods looking at their people. The sensations became stronger. In a moment he looked at my nude arms (i had took out my coat), runned away and came back with all his friends pointing my arms. And they started pulling the abundant hair that covers my body (tibeteans don´t seem to have that), always laughing truly amazed. A Tear drop rolled down my face in a moment of absolute happiness.

We stayed together until the sunset when their folks just came to takem them home. Without a word, with a big smile, little Dalai Lama just put his arms around my neck in the strongest hug i have ever had. My head became dizzy, the heart stressed, smashed by that simplicity of genuine feelings. I Was Stuck in a Moment (U2) and couldn't get out of there.  Withou any words, always smiling he went away.

I would like to stay forever. I really didn´t want to leave that place of incredible happiness. But then i remeber Heirich Harrer (7 years in Tibet) and the terrible price he had to pay at the end of his fantastic story. And so my Migo, Kikoleta and Liquitas (my beloved sons) came up to my mind and iunderstood my time to leave has came, befor it was too late.

Almost lost the plane, but at the last minute in a true effort i managed to jump into it. With my heart full of the best of the adventures.

I Was Stuck in a Moment (U2) and couldn't get out of there.

A PhD on the Road (Tibete)

Tibet can be told departing from its people, its monks and monasteries and its mountains. Being so, i just decided to tell you the story of this path through this 3 issues. I begin with People, today. Next weeks i´ll go into the other two.

People is the best that you can find in the world, i always believed that, and so when travelling, that´s what i look for. People to meet, their lives that i can imagine, the adventures to share. That´s my main goal, People and their environ instead of museums, cathedrals, ex-libris, or so...

The life of a person is made of simple paths to where some people converge and later diverge. Some are companions for a long journey, others stay for a short time, but what really matters  is the way you walk your path together with its falls and stand ups or the grey or colourful times. Everything is important to your path to be true. As it was said before: There is no way to happyness. Happyness is the way. And that is really why i feel a happy person.

My Sherpa (Yan Su) in these lands just told me a story of her own experience that illustrates this perfectly. With 14 years old, she asked her father to go to his brother's for a month, during one month school hollidays. But instead of doing so she went to a monastery and ask the monks help to go to India to study what she felt like to. And so, she walked (in the right sense of the word) across the Himalayas and reach India by the time she had to be back home. Only then she send a message to the family. She stayed there for some years and then she came back to her home land to use the acquired knowledge. She told us that story with no remarks of an extraordinary adventure of thousand dangers. On the contrary she just presented it as a simple path that had to be "walked", during which she met a lot of good people along the way and how good it was for her own life.

I red again Tintim in Tibet (Hergé), 7 Years in Tibet & Reurn to Tibet (Heinrich Harrer), with whom i have a lot of affinities (the mountains, the climbing the love for the people, the way of thinking, the freedom of mind). And it is amazing the fidelity of their stories to the wise words of Dalai Lama. I really like the man, especially because he is just a simple man despite his political and "holy" condition. And so, i don´t resist to write down some of his toughts that really touch me deep inside:

...If we recognize the unique character of humanity, we´ll understand that diffrences are minor. T respect and care for others generates a hppy atmosphere and that is the way to create harmony and fraternity...

...As soon as we born we depend on the care of our parents. Later when we get sick or get old, again we depend on kindness of our brothers. So how can we forget that when we are in the middle?...

...In the old times, war was a matter of physical confrontation. The winner would see with his own eyes the suffering and the blood of the enemy. In our days it is much more frighten since a man on is office can push a button, kill millions of people and never get confronted with its atrocity.

Think about that.

Fallin at your feet (Bono, from the soundtrack of Million Dollar Hotel) it is my way to honour Dalai Lama and the Tibetians

As pessoas sempre.

A felicidade é o caminho.

Nessa altura avisou a familia.

Pensem nisso.

Fallin at your feet (Bono, banda sonora de Million Dollar Hotel) é a minha forma de prestar homoenagem ao Dalai Lama e aos Tibetanos em geral

A PhD on the Road (Tibete)

Life in the mountains is based in draw backs and moving forwards, in order to get used to the lack of oxygen. So, we decided to stay in Lasa for a couple of days, enjoying people, go to Potala Palace and getting used to the "dizzy" state that really slow you down, but leaves you in a really good mood.

To tell you about Tibet, it is unavoidable to refer Dalai Lama and his world based in LOVE, COMPASSION and KINDNESS, that we are so needed nowadays. You just read some of Dalai Lama thoughts and i´m sure you´ll find out how good it is for human nature (and maybe to our own survival) that he still keep believing and defending it. Shouldn't we help him in that cruzade. Wouldn't it be of fundamental interest for a well lived life.

This first week in Tibet just brought up to my mind that i once believed in a very similar way (during my idealistic youth) and then i just let it go, thinking that would be too naif to be succeded. Tibetians prove you beyond any reasonable doubt, not only that it is possible, but also how good it can be for your own peace of mind. The Spirit of Budo (Oliver Shanti and his friends) is the music i select to represent those moments. See, Listen and Feel it.

And so i´m really enjoying this time here, thinking about the mountains and the good times i had with my father there, and really having a chance of "talking" to him, saying the things that were never said.

Meanwhile, back in Portugal, 3 big friends just made possible to exhibit my work and my projects in DIANA BAR (Póvoa de Varzim), in a exhibition that will last until last day of this month. Carlos Costa, a friend from university times when we played guitar together in Estudantina, just made the proposition to City Hall. João Bustorff (Maria Brito) just gave colour to my pictures with her fantastic writing, and Mike Lopes (one of the best students i´ve ever had) put all that together in a harmonic manner. Thank you all, my friends

The Spirit of Budo (Oliver Shanti and his Friends) é a minha preferência musical para encaixar esses momentos.

A PhD on the Road (Tibete)

Lasa

After a very peculiar path to get visas to enter in here i am in the ultimate frontier: TIBET, after being "welcomed"  by that beautiful tibetean lady holding a paper with my name in the middle of the airport hall.  I'll keep that moment until the end of my days

My sport of youth (since 6 years old) was climbing, given me by father as a gift for all the eternity. The first book i've haver red was Tintin in Tibete and that was one of the multiple ways of him to lead me to the mountains while teaching me the real meaning of mind freedom and how to overcome all the obstacles that may come into your way.

And that is exactly the perfect place to deal with fundamental chapter of my PhD.

Genesis play the music to get in (... to get out)

Some friends arrive to join me in this "road": António Viana da Fonseca (another globe trotter), my dear dear friend Gabi (Gabriela Marques) Sandra Coelho and Sara Pizarro. Sara Rios went home from Sri Lanka and might come again if i´ll go to Macau. Rodrigo will join me later.

Com entrada ao sabor dos Genesis (Carpet Crawlers)...You got to get in to get out

Entretanto chegaram uns quantos amigos para fazer comigo esta jornada: António Viana da Fonseca (another globe trotter), my dear dear friend Gabi (Gabriela Marques) Sandra Coelho and Sara Pizarro.

A PhD on the Road (Sri Lanka)

Galle

Sri Lanka is a surprising country marked by a fascinating history, a magnificent landscape and a very warm people. For me it was also the possibility of living a second chapter of a very dear story.

I could feel again all the moments i had kept in my heart, while walking through this Resplendent Island (the meaning of Sri Lanka) with its incredible variety of its fauna and flora, even after a mass destructions during colonial times, the rivers, the falls and the forests, the ancestral genious creating artificial lakes (tanks) for water management since 2000 years ago, the tropical climate, the always green colour of the mountains and the Patana’s (grasslands).

And then there was the people that remember me all about Carolina. The permanent smile, the peace that you can see in every face at any glance, their culture and life expectancy (older than 70 years for both sexes) and the permanent care for environ reflected by Ruhuna (Yala), Gal Oya, Uda Walawe and Lahugala National Parks or the Elephant Orphanage.

As our history, Sri Lanka is full of contrasts, such as The Monks and the Crows, the War and the Permanent smile or the Sweetness and the Rage of Nature. Thus, i just picked up Galle in a stormy day, borrowed the voices of Elton John and the unforgettable Lucciano Pavaroti to leave a song for you, Carolina. YOUR SONG (i know it will end up in your hands)

Thanks for this LOVELY piece of Life

A Love Story - Epilogue from nunocruz on Vimeo.

Pedi emprestadas as vozes a Elton John e esse inesquecivel Lucciano Pavarotti e aqui deixo YOUR SONG. (Sei que há-de chegar às tuas mãos)

Obrigado por este Pedacito de Vida

A PhD on the Road (Sri Lanka)

The Temple of the Monk Alone

Last day we spent together was incredibly shiny, making it easy to go through it without thinking on the next day. We met after lunch, walked on the beach, quiet most part of the time feeling only the pleasure of being together. We abandoned ourselves in a cosy caffee in "Molhe", and let the sun go down on us. When the night fell, we were already in a nice restaurant piled over the sea. A very beautiful night, under the silver moon and with the ocean flowing beneath our feet.

Then, i walked with her to the hotel trying to guess her feelings through her expression. Completely calm and peaceful. We'd talked a few times on the (Last night) subject and she just said " Nuno, there is no way to hapiness. Hapiness is the way. So lets live our way". I was a bit lost on this, but trusting her for the matter.

Arriving at the hotel, we just gave hands and walk up together...

...See the movie at this point (Music: Angel, Sara Mclachlan)

In the next morning i woke up with a whisper in the shadow.

"My love. Please don´t turn on the light, i don´t want us to see nothing but the shadows. This walk ends up here. If everything goes right with surgery i´ll go back to my previous life, and you have yours to live. So, don´t go after me, or visit me in the hospital... Just let our lives flow. Our walk together is our treasure for the eternity".

I didn´t say anythinhg feelling the all truth at each word. I just embraced her very tide and saw her shadow flowing out the room. For a long time i stayed there floating over our path. For the Eternity.

And that was the last time i saw her, for real. And that was 30 years ago

(Weeks later my father told me she had gone home in perfect shape.)

A Love Story - Two hearts, One Soul from nunocruz on Vimeo.

A felicidade é o caminho.

… Vejam o filme neste ponto...(Music: Angel, Sara Mclachlan)

A nossa caminhada termina aqui.

A PhD on the Road - Sri Lanka

Colombo

"Tuk, Tuk. Ah! Ah! Ah!" she laughed showing surprise when looking our "shocking cars" (Typical amusement of Portuguese popular fairs).

We enjoyed very much walking around Porto. Me, because i was delighted to show her my back yard and even more, because i was learning, through her eyes,  to see it from a different perspective i was used to. Her because eventhough it was a different country she could find so many similarities between both portugal and Sri Lanka.

She confessed so many times that she felt as confortable as at home, here, and that make her relaxed through the though period she as to live here. "Porto as so many things that make me remember my Colombo, Nuno. The coast line, the way the sun goes down, your horizons and happiness of your people. And now i discover that you also have the Tuk, Tuks. I feel at home, and i thank you for that". I felt good to hear that, altough i couldn´t completely understand what she meant.

I learnt so many things that spring/summer time with her, altough only some years later i got the full meaning of that. At the time, i was a 16 year old boy with a lot of dreams in my mind and hoping that i would be rich, famous and powerfull when i got the age for that. The meaning of having... of  being the "number one" in a permanent competition with all "the enemies" that would come. But with her, there was no point for that. I had no purpose to reach some goal. Just live together with her day by day with a crescent secret desire for the time to go slow. I didn´t want that to come to an end. And so it was until the last minute. Not worrying, being happy.

I confess that those moments help me to survive in this fuckin' world we live where individualism domains our actions generating, hate, selfishness and bossy modes, loosing all the advantages and plesures of a team combined work. That means that we only give in the direct sense of what we get, which means that we don't really give anything. We just trade, and thus the treasure we all have in our hearts is never given. This is our lost, and maybe the answer for the crisis (either economical or global) we are living in .

(The music? Dont worry, be happy...by Bobby McFerrin -  Blue Note version)

Tuk, Tuk, Ah!

(A musica? Don't Worry, Be happy... Bobby McFerrin - versão Blue Note)

A PhD on the Road (Sri Lanka)

Kandy

I spent my Last Night in Nur'Elia dreaming with Carolina, with all the moments we lived together refreshing my brain. In the morning, when i was at the reception getting ready to leave to Kandy, the receptionist just gave me a letter, with a curious smile in his face. Guessing what was in there i just came out and set outside in the fresh garden and let its words to whisper into my soul...

True traveller
You just came in, again, into my life
crossing your soul with mine

You looked for a traveller soul in my eyes,
i sent back to you the trust of giving
and careless, you just dive in me.

We travelled throughout time.
with our destiny fulfilled 30 years ago, when together we visit all that was worthy...

Yes, what is the point of today
if we lived a life in just one day
and gave sense to eternity?

And as any  traveller
we just left, because it was meant to be that way...

leaving our souls spread around everywhere... in me... in you...
in us

Carolina

P.S. As 30 years ago, you walk your way and i´ll do mine. Both are meant to be the same

I abandoned myself there for a couple of hours just breathing her words and then i went to the reception and knew that the message was left there one week before. She just knew i was coming, maybe by the blog, i don't know.  As i suspect, there was no clue how to get to her, so i just picked up my stuff and   walked way to Kandy chasing her Sinhalese soul with my heart singing RadioHead (A Wolf at the Door)

A Love Story - The Sinhalese Soul from nunocruz on Vimeo.

Verdadeiro viajante

A PhD on the Road (Sri Lanka)

The First Step (Colombo)

Have you ever seen an epileptic crisis. It is a poweful thing where all your body spend its energy in a titanic struggle trying to calm down brain activity. Mine, however, was provoqued by an ansiety crisis related to the heart beat of youth passion, with the same power of the epileptic crisis. Thus, for me, embedded in this scenary of falling in love for the first time, those are among the most emotionally important moments of my life.

In the following 4 weeks i´ll tell you this sweet story while i´m studying another love of my (professional) life, which in fact is the essence of my professional path. The DMT Test(Marchetti's Dilatometer). When it comes the time to leave Sri Lanka i will have a movie dedicated to "him".

I think Nitin Shawney sound (The Conference) fits in this kind of environment. And you?

Kisses and hugs and Saudade to you all. See you next week

A Love Story - Prologue from nunocruz on Vimeo.

A PhD on the Road (Seychelles & Maldivas)

Seychelles

After all, Patricia and our little wild pre-historic friend (i´m very happy he joint us in this trip) convinced me to make this stop, and so here we are in this piece of calm.

I'm seating on the floor, with Patricia creating a shadow against the window, and i just remeber those warm afternoons in Vizela, with my grand mother and my auntie Titiá knitting some kids clothing while the sun warm up our bodies and the hapinness warming up our souls. Fantastic moments of a childhood so simple, so light and so easy, which makes a deep contrast with the speed of these days that leave us all dizzy. I like to think. Very much. And for that i need to slow down, let my mind go into a free chaos and start creating from there. And only when this job is finished, i "discuss" it with referenced work. Only then.
Thus, in this idilic paradise i´m creating another chapter of Granites Life History, which i will present to you next week for your superior discussion. Patricia choose Wonderful World from James Morrison, and i couldn't find better choice for the ocasion

Kisses and hugs for everybody

No final, a Patricia sempre me convenceu a tropeçar nas Seychelles.
