KISSING AFRICA - Maputo Bay

Maputo

I land once more in Maputo. For the 5th time. This time, and as usual, the old friend Fernando get me at the airport, and that other intermitent emigrant, brother in arms, ideas and even in family name. Jorge. Cruz, as i am. I feel happiness to come, when i see Silvia, right there at the airport. I smile to face once again Elise, Luis Póvoas. I congratulate myself for some more new friends arising in the horizon, among that massive exodus that follows an horizon that have disappeared back in Portugal. Brave people, good people, the type of people that Portugal needs to get on own feet again. Exactly the same people that Portugal expels in its growing inability to deal with situation. And so, common the lack of expectations about building a life in Portugal. Too many "sanguessugas" to go through. When you leave away, you see it so clearly as the waters in Caribe. And naturally, want to leave it that horizon behind. It is not good for your soul.

It is the fifth time and i realize i didn´t know a fundamental dimension  of Maputo. The water dimension. Which i also hardly know in Mozambique. But thi time, this gap will be filled, by means of a working agenda that crosses me with the water world, on my way north to malawi. Including two crosses of this fabulastic river that is the Zambezi. The first, in Sena, crossing that unique piece of art that is the Dona Ana railway Bridge. The second, in Tete through a brand new bridge that i am honoured to have help to built. I must confess that i have been falling in love with this river. By its history, by its soul and by the two times our lives crossed (the other one in the new bridge in Caia-Chimuara). But this will be told in further posts.

Right now, come with me, my old and new friends, and with Blue October (She´s my riding home, Into the Ocean, Congratulations) through this other less known Maputo. First through the fishermen quarter, preparing a delicious dinner. Then around Maputo Bay, a fundamental sigthseeing to understand Maputo as a whole.
See you next week with more "waters" of Mozambique.

É a morte lenta"

A cidade ganha outro contorno.. Importante. Bonito.

AN AFRICAN CROSS COUNTRY - The joy of enjoying the way

Maputo

And so, another adventure comes to the end, with the happiness built along the way. And that one is inside me now, is part of me. I leave you with a little tour around Maputo, while i am waiting for the moment to get in the plane and step on the long way that will lead me home. Happy and in a good mood, despite the horrible toothache that has been torturing me for the last couple of days. With Beirute (Nantes and Appolonia) and Moby (Everloving), to relax. Kisses and hugs for my travelling companions, Francisco "Comodoro" Asseceiro, Eduardo "Broken Back" Fortunato, Elsa "Holy Mother of the Waters" Alves.

See you in the next adventure
