Engineering is creation within Science, so it is an Art & Science problem.

Furthermore, Originality is no more than an Ingenuity taking into practice.

As a consequence you need the good ingenuity that takes artists to creation together with knowledge, in order to produce true engineering.

With this in mind, watch the tutorial of a simple application of the theoretical approach presented in the previous film, and foresee the future of these young engineers

Engenharia é um acto de criação suportada pela ciência. É por isso um problema de Arte & Ciência.

Por outro lado, Originalidade não é mais do que uma Ingenuidade levada à pratica.

Em consequência,  precisamos de uma boa dose dessa ingenuidade que conduz os artistas ao acto creativo, combinada com o conhecimento, para produzir uma boa engenharia.

Com isso em mente, deliciem-se com o segundo filme, correspondente ao tutorial de uma aplicação simples do contexto teórico dado no filme anterior, e "adivinhem" o futuro destes jovens engenheiros.

Another Cluster - The amazing power of art

For a long time, we (me and my students in Aveiro University) we have been building an evolutive rock mechanics  electronic manual. Built with our emotions, with our love. A fundamental tool to bring knowledge to the future of each one. Some years we are "normal", other times, fantastic things just happen. When things like the one i´m presenting today happen, i just feel fulfilled, happy and proud.

The film is a  theoretical (the diaporama of today) and case study (next week) of Bearing capacity in rock massifs, as studied within the rock mechanics discipline of the MSc in Geologic Engineering of University of Aveiro. It was made and produced in teamwork by Rafael Barros, Maria Eduarda Ramos, Jordi Besora, Marketa Malá.
I think it is just perfect, in all senses. What about you?.

Abençôo o dia em que tive auqele "vipe" de lançar o conceito de um manual electrónico evolutivo, que evolui de ano para ano e, em seguida, nas mãos de cada um, com a sua própria experiencia. Por vezes, correm anos que não trazem saltos significativos. Volta e meia acontecem coisas extraordinárias como aquela que vos apresento hoje. Com particular interesse para engenheiros.

Trata-se de um trabalho produzido por Rafael Barros, Maria Eduarda Ramos, Jordi Besora e Marketa Malá, no âmbito da cadeira de Mecânica das Rochas da Licenciatura em Engenharia Geológica da Universidade de Aveiro. Trata-se de um filme animado dedicado à explicação teórica e apresentação de um caso prático (em dois episódios, um apresentado abaixo outro na próxima semana) sobre um modelo de avaliação da capacidade de carga de fundação em maciços rochosos.

Eu acho-o simplesmente soberbo, em todos os sentidos. E vocês?

WE - the Fundamental Cluster

In difficult times such as those we are living in, in a more and more selvatic world, with no respect, violently selfish and unsustainable, a destroyer of minds and souls and “suicidary” generator of sadness and despair, the support for survival lies on the small clusters that we are able to create in love and harmony.

I really feel happy and proud, together with the woman that walks with me for such a long time and the children that our love have generated, for being able to grow together, united as a all-in-one but never limiting the freedom of each one, building a home for our hearts. Even without foreseeing the actual reality, at the beginning of the adventure. And it is that home of balance, love, respect and harmony that allow us to face with hope and serenity, both today and the day of tomorrow. Really, a safe harbor were to hide in troubling times.

If you want to touch the strength of it, just dive with us into the mother earth (Cuevas Darche, Karstic caves in the limestones of Mallorca) with the instinctive emotions that only music can give (Comptine d'un autre eté, Yann Tiersen)

Eu sinto o enorme orgulho de, juntamente com a minha parceira de jornada e com os filhos que o nosso amor gerou, termos sabido crescer em conjunto, unidos como se fossemos um só mas sem limitar a liberdade individual, construindo um lar para os nossos corações. 

E é esse “lar” de amor, de paz, de harmonia e de equilíbrio que nos permite a todos encarar com serenidade o dia a dia e olhar com esperança o dia de amanhã, torneando as enormes incertezas que o horizonte nos coloca, neste mundo cada vez mais turbulento, violentamente egoísta e insustentável, destruidor de almas e de mentes e suicidariamente potenciador de infelicidade e do desespero.

Para quem quiser sentir, deixo um instintivo vislumbre da alma desse cluster, através do mergulho para dentro da Terra (Cuevas Darche, grutas cársicas nos cálcareos de Maiorca) enredados na emoção que só a musica pode trazer (Comptine d'un autre eté, Yann Tiersen).
